Google Search Console Insights will no longer display or use data from Google Analytics. It will continue to use data from Google Search Console and Google Search, but not data from Google Analytics, the company announced this morning.
What Google said. Google posted on X:
Google says it “hopes this will make it easier to find details in Search Console Insights,” adding that it “focuses on Search Console data.” Thus, this reporting tool “no longer includes[es] Google Analytics metrics.
What is Search Console Insights. Search Console Insights is designed specifically for content creators and publishers and “can help them understand how audiences discover content on their site and what resonates with their audience,” according to Google. The Search Console Insights report is powered by data from Google Search Console and Google Analytics.
When was it first launched? Google launched a beta version of it last year, then opened limited access to some content creators to debug it and give Google feedback on the reports. At the time, Google said: “It’s a way to provide content creators with the data they need to make informed decisions and improve their content.”
Then, in June 2021, Search Console Insights launched for everyone.
What it looks like. Here is a screenshot of some of the reports:
What does he respond to? Search Console Insights reports aim to answer these questions:
- What is your best performing content?
- How are your new content performing?
- How do people discover your content on the web?
- What are people searching for on Google before visiting your content?
- Which article directs users to your website and content?
How to access it. Google offers you several ways to access reports:
- Select Search Console Insights at the top of the Search Console Overview page.
- Use this link to go directly to it.
- In the Google iOS app, select Search console information in the account menu (tap your profile photo). This is coming soon and will also be available on the Android app soon.
Why we care. I’m not really a fan of having access to less data, but it seems that Google Analytics data may have caused more user confusion. Or maybe it was difficult for Google to maintain this data in Search Console Insights.
That being said, Search Console Insights will no longer display Google Analytics data moving forward.
